Position Summary
We’re looking for an Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong background in the construction industry and a deep understanding of structural steel design, fabrication, and erection. This role is responsible for developing detailed cost estimates, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting the success of projects from preconstruction through award.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret structural drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate and competitive steel fabrication and erection estimates.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs of steel components including beams, columns, connections, plates, and miscellaneous metals.
- Analyze project scope, design details, and constructability to develop cost-effective means and methods for fabrication and installation.
- Prepare complete cost breakdowns covering materials, labor, equipment, coatings, transportation, and erection.
- Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers, fabricators, and subcontractors to ensure accurate and competitive bids.
- Identify potential risks, scope gaps, and value-engineering opportunities to improve project profitability and execution efficiency.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and detailers to verify quantities, connection designs, and field conditions.
- Maintain current knowledge of steel market pricing, fabrication methods, erection techniques, and industry standards.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client discussions to clarify project scope and conditions.
- Prepare and present detailed estimate reports, cost summaries, and recommendations to management and clients.
- Support project handoff to operations by providing detailed estimate data, clarifications, and documentation.
Qualifications
- 5 years in the construction industry
- A strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and pricing
- Ability to analyze construction documents, perform quantity takeoffs, develop means and methods for construction, identify risks, develop costs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in HCSS HeavyBid, Excel, Bluebeam
