Licensed Preschool Teacher

Job Title: Head Preschool Teacher Supervisor: Program Director

Summary: Responsible for the daily operation of the preschool program, including planning and executing the educational program in accordance with the objective of NEKPC. Ensure that the program promotes the development of each child’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development in a nurturing environment. Be a model of exemplary professionalism, work ethics, and a team player.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Develop weekly plans and implement age appropriate curriculum (lesson plan) to nurture and stimulate all domains of children’s development in their care.
  • Provide a safe, clean, and developmentally-appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children’s learning and growth.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
  • Perform ongoing developmental evaluations of children, develop lesson plans, and follow curriculum implementation that addresses the individual needs of each child.
  • Routinely plan, evaluate, and improve the physical environment in the classroom to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the children.
  • Treat all children with respect and dignity, make them feel safe and secure; provide opportunities for learning through play, decision-making, and social interaction with their peers.
  • Provide responsive care to all children by adapting routines and plans to the interests and needs of the group.
  • Prepare developmental progress reports as needed. (Teaching Strategies Gold)
  • Actively work to support full inclusion of children with diverse abilities and disabilities, as well as those from all socio-economic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
  • Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/caregivers.
  • Provide a classroom environment that encourages parent/family participation.
  • Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships and experience clear communication with teaching staff.
  • Schedule and lead parent teacher conferences two times per year.
  • Act as liaison with children's families to ensure smooth transition from home to preschool setting and transitions from program to program when needed.
  • Assist families with children's transitions from toddler to preschool and from preschool to kindergarten.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and timely client and agency records; Completes daily meal and attendance records.
  • Maintain up to date emergency forms, curriculum plans, individual child development profile and other records as needed or required.
  • Complete daily health checks regarding hygiene, safety, and overall well being of the children.
  • Report evidence of suspected abuse/neglect to program director and proper authorities.
  • Assist with the supervision of staff and volunteers for preschool program.
  • Ensure that the assistant teacher is kept updated in all matters concerning the classroom and program, i.e. lesson plans, policies & procedures, training received.
  • Provide functional training and guidance to staff, interns, substitutes and volunteers assigned to the classroom.
  • Report all staffing and classroom concerns to program director in a timely manner.
  • Report family changes in schedules and excessive absences to program director in a timely manner.
  • Attend mandatory staff meeting/trainings.
  • Participate in ongoing educational development opportunities.
  • Participate in ongoing development and evaluation of program’s goals and objectives.
  • In accordance with our team philosophy, carry out or assist with other tasks, as needed, in addition to the duties listed on this job description.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping
  • Climb up and down stairs
  • Have mobility required to ensure the safety of the children
  • Work with children on the floor
  • Work outdoors in any variety of weather
  • Perform light duty cleaning

Requirements:

  • Teaching License (For Universal Preschool)
  • Minimum of an associate degree in early childhood education, child development, human services, or related field, or Child Development Associate (CDA). Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge in child development and early childhood education services
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member, maintain confidentiality, and be flexible.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to understand and manage the complexities of a large preschool program
  • Ability to access a situation and act quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with parents, children, and staff
  • Commitment to be actively engaged in a continuing process of professional development
  • Obtain CPR and first aid certification within six months of employment
  • Sufficient transportation to meet job requirements

Job Types: Part-time, Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
