JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Cook Supervisor: Program Director
Summary: Responsible for providing children with nutritionally balanced meals and snacks, while maintaining a clean environment in the kitchen and pantry areas, in accordance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the Vermont Department of Health. Also responsible for required CACFP paperwork.
Principle Responsibilities:
Kitchen
- Prepare weekly menus in conjunction with the program director, making sure the meals follow the CACFP guidelines and take into consideration any allergies, dietary restrictions and/or preferences
- Prepare food in an appealing, efficient, and inviting manner
- Proper labeling and storage of all food products in the pantry, freezer, and refrigerator
- Conduct housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain the kitchen in an organized, clean, safe, and hygienic condition at all times
- Deliver and collect lunch/snack trays to/from all classrooms
- Complete clean up after each meal (i.e. dishes, countertops, etc.)
- Regular inventory of kitchen equipment and supplies
- Assist program director with daily meal and food program records
- Maintain required meal records in accordance to CAFCP guidelines
Ordering/Purchasing
- Purchase all groceries in order to implement the planned menus, in consideration of NEKPC’s food budget and in consultation with the program director
- Purchase all household supplies for the center as needed
- Unpacking and checking of orders
- Follow established procedures regarding forwarding of all receipts related to purchases
Program Support
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents regarding children’s dietary restrictions, allergies, etc.
- Assist in administration of first aid, as required
- Participate in fire drills and other emergency procedures as necessary
- Assist in the child care programs as required by the program director in order to enhance or maintain child-staff ratios
Other
- Attend staff/program meetings as required
- Attend professional development and other relevant training opportunities when available, e.g. in order to remain current with respect to regulations on proper food handling, etc.
- Other duties; participation in special events as assigned by the program director
- Assists the program director in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards
- Maintain good personal hygiene
- Adhere to dress code
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time
- Lift up to 40 lbs.
- Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping
- Climb up and down stairs
- Have mobility required to ensure the safety of the children
- Perform light duty cleaning
Qualifications:
- Basic cooking skills plus experience in food service and volume meal preparation.
- Ability to read and follow a recipe and a cycle menu
- Ability to increase or decrease recipe quantities, including the ability to use decimals and fractions
- Strong organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to prioritize
- Ability to work effectively as a team member, maintain confidentiality, and be flexible
- Ability to access a situation and act quickly and efficiently
- Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with parents, children, and staff
- Sufficient transportation to meet job requirements
- Obtain CPR and first aid certification within 30 days of employment
- Minimum of a High School diploma
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
