Job Title: Resident Assistant-Counselor- North Dakota Governor's School

Location: North Dakota State University, North Dakota

Duration: June 5th – July 2nd with 2 hours of asynchronous, remote training in May.

Position Type: Temporary, Full-Time

Program Overview: The North Dakota Governor's School (NDGS) is a prestigious summer program that brings together academically gifted and motivated students from across the state. This month-long residential program offers students a unique opportunity to engage in advanced academic coursework, collaborate with like-minded peers, and explore their intellectual passions.

Position Summary: We are seeking dedicated and responsible NDGS counselors to join our team. As a NDGS counselor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive experience of our talented students during their stay on campus. Counselors will stay in the residence halls for the duration of NDGS.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support:

  • Supervise and mentor students in the residence halls.
  • Provide academic and emotional support to students as needed.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive living environment conducive to learning and personal growth.

Program Activities:

  • Participate in and assist with afternoon, evening, and weekend activities.
  • Collaborate with program staff to plan and execute engaging and enriching activities for students.
  • Ensure students' adherence to program rules and guidelines during activities.

Safety and Emergency Response:

  • Be on-call and available in the residence hall to address any emergencies or issues that may arise.
  • Assist in the implementation of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Report any incidents or concerns promptly to program leadership.

Community Building:

  • Foster a sense of community and camaraderie among students.
  • Organize and lead group discussions, team-building activities, and icebreakers.
  • Encourage peer support and a respectful, inclusive atmosphere.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and incidents.
  • Assist with residence hall check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with program staff and parents/guardians as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate program.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working with adolescents or young adults preferred.
  • Ability to handle and resolve conflicts in a professional and constructive manner.
  • Demonstrated reliability, responsibility, and leadership qualities.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must have valid driver's license and complete training to drive a 15-passenger van.

Compensation: The NDGS counselor position for the North Dakota Governor's School offer a compensation of $5,000 for the 4 weeks. Additionally, room and board will be provided for the duration of the program.
