The Parts Counter Salesperson is responsible for selling parts and accessories to customers and supporting mechanics by providing the necessary products for vehicle repairs. This role involves customer service, inventory management, and merchandising tasks to ensure the efficient, safe, and profitable operation of the dealership’s parts department. The Parts Counter Salesperson reads catalogs or computer systems to identify and price parts, fills orders accurately, advises customers on part substitutions, processes sales transactions, and maintains stock organization and displays.
- Greet customers and mechanics, assess their parts needs, and provide prompt, courteous service.
- Identify, locate, and pull parts from inventory to fulfill customer and mechanic orders accurately.
- Use parts catalogs, computer systems, or other reference materials to determine correct part numbers and pricing.
- Advise customers on suitable part substitutions or modifications when exact replacements are unavailable.
- Receive and process telephone and in-person orders, prepare sales invoices, and handle payments or credit authorizations.
- Maintain accurate records of parts sales, inventory levels, and customer interactions.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and assist in stock management to ensure availability and proper storage.
- Examine returned parts for defects and process exchanges or refunds in accordance with company policies.
- Assist in merchandising parts displays and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the parts counter and sales area.
- Demonstrate product features or usage to customers as needed to support sales.
- Collaborate with mechanics, service department, and other dealership personnel to facilitate efficient repair operations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and dealership policies while performing job duties.
- Support other duties as assigned to ensure smooth parts department operations including reassignment to other roles or tasks as needed..
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (required); Associate’s Degree or higher (preferred).
- Previous parts sales experience (preferred, but not required).
- Ability to quickly learn and operate the dealership’s business and inventory systems.
- Strong customer service skills and effective communication abilities.
- Basic math skills for pricing and processing sales transactions.
- Ability to read and interpret parts catalogs and computer displays.
- Reliable and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Legal authorization to work in the country.
