Job Summary
- Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures for blood tests and know all safety requirements.
- Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory.
- Processes specimens for testing, storage and send out to reference laboratories.
- Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and limitation of testing procedures.
- Performs waived testing as required.
- Demonstrates knowledge about the functionality of the Lab’s automation line.
- Acts as a resource for laboratory information.
- Timeliness of specimen collections and contamination.
Education
- High school education or equivalent.
- Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
- 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a phlebotomy certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood or blood processing, or current MLT student in clinical rotations, or one or more college level courses in a biological science
Licensure/Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
- $15.45-$25.24/hr depending on previous work experience
