Job Title: Wellfield Technician

Location: Chestnut Valley Landfill

Department: Environmental Operations

Reports to: Gas Operations Manager and Wellfield Supervisor

Job Summary

The Wellfield Technician is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and performance of a landfill gas well field. This position requires exercising judgment and independent decision-making for less complex issues, in alignment with experience and guidance from supervisors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the well field efficiently and productively, ensuring compliance with the Title V Operating Permit, SOPs, and safety and environmental standards.

  • Maintain daily logs and record readings according to standards.

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

  • Keep the workspace clean, including plant buildings, control rooms, restrooms, break rooms, and grounds.

  • Write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Perform landfill tuning duties by recording and storing data.

  • Adjust and tune the well field to maximize gas quantity and quality.

  • Maintain well field databases and logs to meet regulatory and corporate compliance requirements.

  • Document wellhead readings and coordinate corrective actions to maintain continuous compliance.

  • Observe safety and environmental regulations while performing tasks.

  • Assist with operational planning of construction projects and gas collection field expansions.

  • Ensure project compliance with government regulations, the Title V Permit, and NSPS guidelines.

  • Respond to call-outs in a timely manner and work overtime as required.

  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of facility vehicles.

  • Ensure analytical equipment calibrations and record-keeping are current.

  • Acquire knowledge of all gas collection equipment and perform necessary analytical tests.

  • Handle and manage hazardous waste according to training and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • 1-3 years of experience in landfill gas processing, chemical plant operations, industrial gas operations, or power plant operations preferred.

  • Intermediate electrical, chemical, and mechanical experience.

  • Understanding of process control systems for landfill gas collection and processing.

  • Ability to read blueprints and follow established procedures with minimal supervision.

  • Proficient in using computers, including MS Word, Excel, and email systems.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background check, physical, hearing, and DOT drug test.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 60 lbs.

  • Ability to bend, crouch, and kneel regularly.

  • Ability to work in environments with loud noise and extreme temperatures.

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Training Requirements

  • Demonstrate collection system operation, including wellhead data collection, well field balancing, and maintenance.

  • Ensure environmental and regulatory compliance.

  • Familiarize with Title V Operating Permit and NSPS requirements.

  • Demonstrate control system operation and proficiency in related computer programs.

  • Operate facility vehicles and all-terrain vehicles safely.

  • Complete hazardous waste training within the first 6 months of hire.
