We are seeking a hands-on Technology Support & Operations Specialist to join the IT team of a well-established higher education institution in Grand Rapids.
This is not a traditional help desk position spent entirely behind a computer. The role combines desktop and classroom technology support with responsibility for daily campus mail operations. You will troubleshoot technical issues, support faculty and staff, and hire, train, and supervise a team of student employees.

What You’ll Do
Technology Support
- Serve as a first point of contact for technology requests by phone, email, and in person
- Troubleshoot computer hardware, software, printer, connectivity, and classroom technology issues
- Install, configure, and support desktop computers and related equipment
- Set up and move technology equipment throughout campus
- Document solutions and help maintain internal technology guides
- Partner with infrastructure, security, network, and application team members to resolve more complex issues
- Help improve help desk processes and the overall user experience
Mailroom Operations
- Oversee daily incoming and outgoing campus mail operations
- Hire, schedule, train, and supervise student employees
- Coordinate mail sorting, pickup, delivery, bulk mailings, and international mail
- Ensure compliance with applicable postal requirements
- Maintain postage equipment and coordinate with outside vendors when issues arise
- Accurately record and process postage payments
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control costs
What We’re Looking For
- General hands-on IT experience, including computer setup, printer support, and hardware and software troubleshooting
- Strong customer service skills with a patient, approachable communication style
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to users with different levels of technical knowledge
- Comfortable balancing technical support with administrative and operational responsibilities
- Organized, dependable, and able to shift priorities throughout the day
- Ability to train, schedule, and oversee student employees
- Comfortable working in a collaborative higher education environment
- Able to move computer equipment, mail totes, packages, and other materials as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in information technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience
- Previous experience providing IT support in education, nonprofit, government, or another service-oriented environment
- CompTIA A , Network , HDI, or a related technology certification
- Previous supervisory, team lead, or student-worker management experience

This position is fully onsite in Grand Rapids. Candidates should currently live within a reasonable commuting distance, as relocation assistance is not available.
Salary : $45,000 - $53,000
