What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospice Clinical Nurse Manager position at NLB Services?
The Hospice Clinical Manager is responsible for overseeing patient care services delivered through the Home Health program and serves as the backup leader for nursing operations. This role acts as a key communication link between field staff, support teams, referral partners, and department leaders to help ensure high-quality service delivery, while working closely with the Director of Clinical Services. The manager also supports orientation, training, and ongoing guidance for new and current clinicians, provides mentorship in case management, and contributes to care planning and patient assessments.
This position monitors staff performance, completes evaluations for clinical team members, and addresses performance concerns through coaching, corrective action plans, or discipline when needed. Using program data, the manager reviews utilization and productivity trends and shares reports with the Director of Hospice to support efficient use of agency resources. The role also promotes safe patient care by reviewing incident reports and taking corrective action promptly.
In addition, the Clinical Manager helps coordinate patient and employee scheduling with team assistants to ensure care starts on time. The role works closely with Intake and Billing teams to resolve onboarding and claims-related issues. The manager also supports staff meetings, maintains documentation and follow-up, and assists with budget review and variance analysis in partnership with the Hospice Director.
The position maintains a strong focus on key performance expectations to support both clinical and financial outcomes. It also ensures proper supply management by coordinating with vendors and reviewing supply usage. In collaboration with the Hospice Director, the manager participates in interviewing and hiring, monitors staffing levels, and helps maintain appropriate coverage across all shifts. The role also handles staff complaints within 24 hours, assists with problem-solving during routine or urgent situations, and helps promote a safe work environment for employees.
Additional responsibilities include approving bi-weekly timesheets and leave requests, supporting community or industry events when needed, and overseeing hospice operations in the Director’s absence. The Clinical Manager also participates in the on-call rotation.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse; BSN preferred.
- At least 3 years of Hospice experience.
- Active, unrestricted Montana RN license.
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Comfortable using online systems and Microsoft Office.
- Supervisory experience is preferred, but not required.
