The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for full‑cycle accounting across multiple entities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely month‑end close. This role manages complex reconciliations, prepares financial statements, supports audits, and drives process improvements. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in GAAP, advanced Excel, and modern accounting systems, and can independently manage accounting operations in a fast‑paced, multi‑company environment.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Journal Entries
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries, including accruals, amortizations, reclasses, and adjustments.
- Maintain accurate general ledger activity across multiple entities.
- Conduct monthly and annual close procedures with minimal supervision.
- Prepare balance sheet and income statement schedules and ensure all supporting documentation is complete and audit‑ready.
Reconciliations & Financial Accuracy
- Reconcile bank accounts and ensure proper cash management.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations (cash, AR, AP, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, payroll liabilities, intercompany, etc.).
- Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, and due‑to/due‑from balances.
Multi‑Entity & Consolidation Accounting
- Support accounting operations for multiple companies, including consolidations.
- Import, process, and reconcile financial transactions across entities and systems.
- Ensure consistent accounting treatment and compliance with GAAP across all business units.
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly financial reports and variance analyses
- Use advanced Excel (pivot tables, Power Query) to analyze financial data.
- Create management dashboards in Power BI
- Generate ad‑hoc reports and provide insights to leadership for decision‑making.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and KPI tracking as needed.
Systems, Data, and Process Improvement
- Maintain and optimize accounting systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
- Import and validate large data sets from external systems or operational tools.
- Identify opportunities to automate workflows and improve efficiency.
Compliance, Audit, and Documentation
- Prepare audit schedules and support external auditors with requested documentation.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain organized, accurate, and accessible financial records.
- Support tax filings and other compliance-related tasks.
Cross‑Functional Support
- Collaborate with AP, AR, payroll, operations, and leadership teams to ensure accurate financial data.
- Provide accounting support for special projects, system implementations, and process changes.
- Assist with acquisition integration, including opening balance sheet setup and ongoing reconciliation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s degree preferred.
- 5 years of hands‑on, full‑cycle accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, Power Query, complex formulas).
- Experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks and NetSuite, or similar.
- Ability to prepare financial statements, journal entries, and reconciliations independently.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multi‑entity or small‑to‑mid‑size company environments.
- Familiarity with Power BI for reporting and data visualization.
- Experience with consolidations and intercompany accounting.
- Exposure to audit preparation, system migrations, or acquisition integration.
