A Financial Services Firm based in New York City is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join their team as a Vice President/Controller. This role will follow a hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with legal entity controllers to ensure accounting policies are accurately implemented and consistently applied across consolidated and standalone financial statements.
- Lead and coordinate special initiatives, including M&A integration efforts, new business launches, and finance transformation projects.
- Evaluate the effect of new accounting standards on daily accounting operations and financial reporting.
- Assess transactions and business scenarios in accordance with technical accounting guidance and communicate findings to key stakeholders.
- Support the preparation and review of legal entity financial statements and produce high-quality financial analyses for senior management.
- Contribute to the monthly close process by preparing and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Collaborate with external auditors, internal auditors, and regulatory agencies as needed.
Qualifications:
- 8 to 14 years of experience in Accounting/Finance, ideally within the financial services sector and focused on asset management.
- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- CPA preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong proficiency with general ledger and reporting systems such as SAP, Workiva, and OneStream.
- Solid understanding of fund accounting and its implications for financial reporting (e.g., 40 Act Funds, Private Equity).
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP with the ability to apply technical guidance to new products and transactions.
- Demonstrated expertise in accounting standards relevant to the asset management industry, including revenue recognition, leases, foreign currency, consolidation/VIEs, compensation, investments, and liability–equity classification.
