Become a Key Player as a Staff Backend Engineer
You will help define and scale core backend architecture for a real-time telemetry platform that ingests and serves high-frequency data, delivering reliability and observability for engineering teams. You’ll work closely with frontend, design, and data stakeholders to own features end-to-end and improve system performance and scalability. This role is Hybrid — in-person collaboration twice weekly (Mondays and Thursdays) with a full-team week every two months.
Here’s How You’ll Make an Impact on the Team
- Design, build, and operate backend systems that process and store large volumes of real-time telemetry data
- Own features end-to-end from design through post-launch improvements
- Collaborate with Frontend, Design, and Data teams to ensure solutions address real customer problems
- Optimize systems for performance, scalability, and reliability
- Contribute to system evolution, including service migrations, caching strategies, and storage/indexing improvements
- Participate in on-call rotations and debug live incidents
- Improve observability and monitoring practices
- Raise engineering quality through code reviews, shared patterns, and mentorship
Here’s What You’ll Need to Be Successful in This Role
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or another STEM discipline
- 7 years of experience in backend or infrastructure roles
- Strong understanding of distributed systems fundamentals (state, fault tolerance, recovery)
- Production-first mindset with strong debugging skills
- Experience with Go, Rust, or Python and strong Linux/networking fundamentals
- Deep knowledge of SQL and operational database experience (indexing, migrations, tuning)
- Experience building and scaling APIs (REST, gRPC/Protobuf)
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Prometheus, Argo CD, and related infrastructure tools
- Eligibility to work as a U.S. Person in compliance with ITAR/EAR (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual)
Here’s What Else Might Help You Out
- Experience with streaming or time-series systems (Kafka, Flink, TimescaleDB, etc.)
- Experience with performance tuning and profiling at query or service layers
- Familiarity with observability tools (Datadog, Grafana)
- Background in hardware or telemetry-heavy environments
