FOOD SERVICES AIDE (3504)
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to participate in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals to County senior
citizens.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude
them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties
may be required and assigned.
Ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and standards governing food preparation, service, and storage; ensures
adherence to established safety procedures; and monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure
safety of employees and other individuals.
Participates in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals: performs chopping, slicing, mixing, measuring and
other prep tasks; cooks and warms food to proper internal temperatures according to safety guidelines; ensures
proper cooking techniques are followed; inspects and monitors quality, taste and temperature of food; serves meals;
and monitors portion control.
Operates various machinery and equipment associated with food preparation and food service activities, which may
include a stove, oven, grill, fryer, steamer, food processor, mixer, meat slicer, toaster, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher,
coffee maker, scale, cooking utensils, thermometer, etc.; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and
safety; and initiates requests to repair faulty equipment.
Prepares and packages meals for delivery: places hot food items into individual service trays; secures lids to serving
trays; counts, sorts, and packs hot meals and cold food items into cooler for each delivery route; and assists with
loading packaged meals into vehicle for delivery.
Cleans and maintains kitchen equipment, kitchen utensils, dining areas, and food preparation areas: sanitizes
surfaces, equipment, utensils, pots, pans, dishes, etc. in accordance with established policies, procedures, and
standards; and utilizes proper sanitizing, cleaning and degreasing solutions.
Assists in maintaining inventory of food products, kitchen supplies, or other items: inspects deliveries to verify

accuracy and completeness of order; stocks incoming supplies; and participates in inventory counts.
Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, vendors, the public, and other individuals as needed to
coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in food service and preparation; or
any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills,
and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: None.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential
functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary
to function effectively in the position.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to determine, calculate, tabulate, or summarize data/information, following a
prescribed plan requiring the exercise of some judgment. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these
computational operations.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-
established policies, procedures and standards.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to use simple tools, equipment or
machinery requiring little or no training.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. May
include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out detailed but routine written or oral instructions. Involves
routine work according to clearly prescribed standard practices, with some latitude for independent judgment.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a
variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20
pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds,
taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental
conditions, such as odors, humidity, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents,
pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
