MAINTENANCE TECHNCIAN I (6130)
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and
operation of buildings, grounds, reservoir, and parks for the Water Resources Department.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude
them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties
may be required and assigned.
Assists in implementing the department’s management plan for reservoir lakeshore and other public recreational
areas: enforces rules and regulations governing the public use of County recreational areas; enforces prohibited and
private access zones; and coordinates and assists efforts with the Department of Natural Resources and other
agencies for wildlife and fisheries management issues on County property, including the reservoir(s).
Assists with and performs all maintenance and upkeep at recreation areas, grounds, and rights-of-way: cleans and
maintains public recreation areas and adjacent roadways; picks up litter; empties trash bins; cuts and prunes trees
and underbrush; mows grass; plants trees, shrubs, and flowers; seeds, fertilizes, top-dresses, conditions soil, and
waters lawns, parks, and open spaces; and applies pest and weed control .
Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled
and semi-skilled trades work: inspects, cleans, and performs routine maintenance of park pavilions, restrooms,
playground equipment, fishing pier, and other park facilities and equipment; and washes, paints and repairs or
replaces park tables, grills, and pavilions.
Performs custodial duties at pavilions, restrooms and buildings: changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; sweeps
floors; mops; empties garbage containers and replaces can liners; cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes
supplies; cleans spills; cleans furnishings and fixtures; washes windows, walls, metal and woodwork; cleans gutters;
and collects and disposes of solid waste.
Enforces recreation area rules and regulations: inspects boats entering lake; ensures safety equipment is in place
and operational; enforces prohibition of gas motors; ensures out-of-state motor vehicles and non-residents pay
parking fees; receives and receipts monies received; enforces other rules pertaining to public use of lake area; and

opens, unlocks and locks recreation areas and facilities as required.
Performs related maintenance duties: assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and Water
Resources programs; prepares facilities for park and other uses; and assists in construction of new park facilities,
including clearing, grading, drainage and foundation work.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated
timeframes and per established procedures: prepares, completes, receives, reviews, processes, forwards or retains,
as appropriate, various forms, work orders, materials lists, and other documentation.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments:
operates and maintains motor vehicle, chain saw, commercial lawn mower, weed trimmer, jack hammer, axe, tractor,
bush hog, pitch fork, steam cleaner, pressure washer, sprayers, equipment trailer, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers,
farming implements, vacuum and other tools and equipment.
Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate
work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience in landscaping, grounds
maintenance or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides
the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Possession
and maintenance of a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential
functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary
to function effectively in the position.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving
some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and
which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20
pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds,
odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental
conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes,
hazardous materials, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents,
animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, water hazards, or rude/irate customers.
