Job Description
Member needs a dependable caregiver to provide hands-on guidance and support in the home due to total vision loss. Caregiver must be comfortable assisting with safe navigation around the home and community, including guiding the member during walking/transfers and helping prevent falls or injuries. Member lives alone and may experience anxiety/panic symptoms, so the ideal caregiver is calm, patient, reassuring, and able to provide steady companionship and a structured routine. Member also benefits from a caregiver who can help reduce triggers (keeping the environment organized, predictable, and low-stress). Member has respiratory sensitivity (asthma history), so caregiver should be mindful of strong odors, smoke, heavy fragrances, and harsh cleaning chemicals, and help maintain good airflow and a clean environment.

Texas STAR PLUS Caregiver Duties
- Personal Care Assistance: support with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and hygiene as needed.
- Mobility & Safety Support: guided assistance with walking, transfers, fall prevention, and safe navigation throughout the home.
- Meal Support: meal prep/cooking, assistance setting up meals, and cleanup (mindful of respiratory sensitivities—avoid strong fumes/chemicals).
- Light Housekeeping: tidying, sweeping/mopping (low-odor products preferred), dishes, laundry, changing bed linens, and keeping pathways clear for safety.
- Companionship & Reassurance: calm presence, supportive conversation, and help maintaining a predictable routine to reduce anxiety.
- Errands/Shopping (if needed): assistance with grocery runs and essential errands. Driving may be required if errands are part of the care plan.
- Observation & Reporting: monitor for changes in condition, breathing comfort, or increased anxiety and report to agency per policy.
