Legislative Aide
New York State Senate – District 6
The Office of a New York State Senator representing District 6 is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Legislative Aide to support the office’s legislative, budget, and district funding priorities. This position plays a key role in assisting with policy research, tracking legislation, supporting budget advocacy, and helping advance initiatives that benefit constituents across District 6.
The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and interested in state government, public policy, and public finance, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced legislative environment.
Responsibilities
Legislative & Policy Support
- Research and summarize legislation, policy proposals, and regulatory issues
- Draft bill summaries, and internal memos for senior staff and the Senator
- Track bills through committee, budget, and floor action and maintain legislative trackers
- Prepare briefing materials for hearings, meetings, and conferences
- Attend legislative meetings, hearings, and briefings as assigned and prepare notes
Budget & Financial Support
- Assist with tracking the New York State budget process, including Executive and Legislative budget proposals
- Support analysis of budget items, appropriations, and fiscal impacts
- Help review and brief budget requests
- Maintain internal spreadsheets and trackers related to funding and fiscal priorities
Grants & District Funding Support
- Assist with intake, review, and organization of capital and discretionary funding requests
- Help ensure applications and supporting documentation are complete and submitted on time
- Serve as a point of contact for community organizations seeking guidance on funding opportunities
