Under the supervision of a Supervising Plumber and Steamfitter or other higher-level supervisor, duties will include, but are not limited to:
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson; which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) traineeship or a two-year plumbing training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.

Duties
Under the supervision of a Supervising Plumber and Steamfitter or other higher-level supervisor, duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Repair, maintain, and install various plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, showers, toilets, urinals, drinking fountains, hot water appliances, etc.
- Maintenance of heating systems.
- Maintenance and repair of septic systems.
- Diagnose and repairs of existing oil and gas burners, hot water, hot air and steam systems.
- Perform installation of Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) and testing of backflow preventers.
- Plan and lay out projects, including preparing materials lists and placing orders in compliance with NYS purchasing guidelines.
- Conduct inspections of facilities/equipment and makes recommendations for repairs or replacements to supervisor.
- Assemble materials, tools and equipment required to complete the work according to plans, which include working from architectural blueprints and specifications.
- Operates light trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors and other equipment as required.
- Supervise and train subordinate staff as assigned in the use of small hand tools that are utilized in the maintenance of plumbing and heating systems, including any specialized trade machinery, equipment and/or materials.
- Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson; which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) traineeship or a two-year plumbing training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.
- Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of
average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also
includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.
- If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Ability to prepare job estimates and order shop supplies.
- Ability to utilize and train subordinate staff in the use of various trades-associated tools and testing equipment.
- Ability to supervise skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled work crews.
- Ability to lift, carry and move equipment and/or materials of different weights and sizes.
