Duties Description
Under the supervision of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor, SG-18, or designee, the incumbent will perform a range of graphic design, sign-making, and maintenance tasks including but not limited to:
- Assist with or generate design of regulatory, wayfinding, interpretive, and educational signs within the framework of approved guidelines.
- Assist with or generate design of publications for commercial printing, including flyers, educational materials, promotional materials, and maps, for use and production by other departments.
- Assist with or generate design of backgrounds and informational pieces for museum displays.
- Utilize computers, software, commercial printers and sign-making equipment to produce signs of metal, wood, plastic, vinyl and other materials appropriate for the application.
- Set up and operate mechanized equipment such as power metal shears, punch and drill presses, and band saws according to specifications to produce blanks and other structured components of signs.
- Hand-letter signs using brushes and paint colors.
- Spray surfaces of signs with protective and decorative materials, such as paints, enamel or lacquer, using a spray gun.
- Assist with cutting and applying reflective paper/vinyl to signs and cutting silk screens according to plans and specifications.
- Remove paint from damaged signs using high-pressure steam, chemicals, and other means.
- Clean paint brushes and spray paint equipment with soap and water, turpentine, or other solvents.
- Assemble signs.
- Assist in the installation or replacement of signs in the field as assigned.

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Adobe Illustrator.
- Must be able to read and interpret plans, documents, specifications, blueprints and drawings.
- Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be physically able to work on ladders and lift/bucket trucks.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather.
