Do you have equipment operation experience? The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking several State Fair Workers to perform maintenance activities and operate various equipment as part of their Events Staff at the Great New York State Fair! These Event Staff positions are part of a 24/7 operation, ensuring the maintenance of event facilities on the New York State Fairgrounds. These positions set up and transport furniture and equipment, such as tables, chairs, picnic benches, and barricades in preparation for special events and meetings. They maintain the outdoors by shoveling snow, spreading ice-melt on walkways, using leaf blowers, and clearing barn stalls post-events.  Acting as a direct point of contact for event promoters, the Event Staff will cater to various event-related needs as they arise. These are labor-class, CSEA-represented positions conveniently located at the New York State Fairgrounds at 581 State Fair Boulevard, Syracuse, New York. We offer a professional and comfortable working environment with ample free parking.

 

These are full-time, temporary opportunities with multiple shifts available:  

 

 

  Shifts may include weekends.

As a New York State employee, you could potentially qualify to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF)! The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your direct loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under an accepted repayment plan and while working full-time for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets or another eligible employer. 

 

One year of experience in the operation of one or more of the pieces of equipment noted above. Candidates must have the physical ability to perform work consisting of light or medium to heavy physical labor. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
