The Public is seeking a part-time seasonal golf cart driver to assist with transportation needs for its season of Free Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater. This is a patron and artist-facing position, primarily scheduled in the evenings. The golf cart driver provides transportation services in Central Park, working fully outdoors in varied weather conditions. This role supports accessibility needs of Shakespeare in the Park attendees, artists, and company staff by ensuring safe, timely, and courteous transport to and from the Delacorte Theater and park entrances. The position requires independence, strong communication skills, and commitment to customer service in a dynamic, public-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary golf cart driver escorting theater goers, staff, and company members to and from the Delacorte Theater and Central Park entrances.
- Operate the golf cart safely and responsibly at all times, in accordance with park and organizational guidelines.
- Work autonomously while managing competing requests and prioritizing transportation needs in real time.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with guests, artists, staff, and colleagues across multiple modes of communication (in person, radio, mobile device).
- Provide an exceptional level of customer service, with particular attention to accessibility needs.
- Assist with light physical tasks as required, including lifting items up to 30 lbs.
Physical and Work Environment
- Outdoor work in Central Park in various weather conditions.
- Prolonged periods of driving, sitting, and interacting with the public.
- Evening and weekend availability required. Daytime work may be included as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License
- Strong aptitude for customer service and guest-facing interactions
- Excellent communication skills and ability to relay communication clearly
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 lbs
- Comfortable working outdoors and navigating pedestrian-heavy environments
This role is compensated at a rate of $21.50 per hour, for an approximate schedule of 12-15 hours per week.
