Job Description
Position:
The Troop Leadership Advisor (TLA) is directly responsible for the safety, security, health, welfare, mentoring, counseling, discipline, and accountability, and in part, leadership development of a troop of 60 - 90 cadets (with few exceptions) between 14 and 21 years of age. The TLA reports directly to the Squadron Leadership Advisor (SLA). In coordination with the SLA, the TLA supports the mission and values of the Institute through a holistic approach to cadet development intended to strengthen the mind, body, and spirit. This is an exempt, 10-month, full-time position.
Tasks:
Exercise responsibility and enforce standards for good order and discipline, safety, health and welfare, grooming standards, and character development of all cadets within the Corps of Cadets in accordance with the New Mexico Military Institute Blue Book (Cadet Handbook).
Conduct investigations pertaining to cadets.
Will be required to participate in professional development and related activities as directed by the Commandant of Cadets.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
Knowledge of the organizational structure and operational functions pertaining to the day-to-day activities of the Commandant’s Staff and the Corps of Cadets in support of the Institute’s mission and values.
The ability to obtain knowledge with the Operations and Procedures Manual, Blue Book, Academic Catalogue, and other applicable materials.
Knowledge of the following Microsoft Office programs: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Exceptional interpersonal skills when engaging with cadets, as well as all members of the campus community.
Qualifications:
Required:
Associate’s degree or equivalent, 60 credit hours from an accredited regional college or university.
Experience with adolescents and/or young adults in a supervisory capacity.
Ability to exercise excellent leadership skills in stressful and fluid environments.
Ability to understand and embrace the military model of education.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree.
Military experience.
Bilingual.
