Job Description
Position:
The Assistant Chief Financial Officer provides essential support directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The Assistant Chief Financial Officer is responsible for preparing, monitoring, and reviewing all components of the budget, ensuring the integrity of reported information, and performing a variety of accounting and financial reporting tasks.
Tasks:
Confers with and supports the Chief Financial Officer in developing and monitoring the annual budget.
Prepare complex financial statements and reports, and work with governmental agencies, internal and external auditors to prepare and gather information as required.
Act on behalf of the Comptroller or Chief Financial Officer in his/her absence.
Work closely with the Comptroller, under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, to perform all functions of the Business Office, which include accounts receivable, accounts payable, cashiering, payroll, contracts, internal controls, and general ledger accounting.
Compiles data from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with a wide variety of purchasing policies and procedures, and/or monitoring purchasing processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
Strong financial budgeting, computational, and administrative skills.
Ability to effectively interpret and explain detailed, complex, technical accounting and budgetary reports
Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to meet multiple deadlines
Must have strong organizational skills
Ability to make decisions independently and exhibit critical thinking skills
Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Maintain confidentiality and discretion
Proficiency in communication skills (written and oral)
Experience using financial database systems and the ability to use query tools to gather and analyze financial data.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university
Three to five years of accounting or financial experience.
Preferred:
CPA
Three to five years of previous experience working with Higher Educational Budgets
Experience in using computerized financial systems
