New Mexico Highlands University is an open admissions university with over 75% Hispanic, Native American, and African American students. NMHU serves approximately 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students at the main campus in Las Vegas, NM and another 1,300 students at centers in Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, and Albuquerque. Nearly 51% of students are at the Master’s level.
The NMHU–BioPACIFIC MIP PREM represents a collaboration between New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) and BioPACIFIC Materials Innovation Platform (MIP) at University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in design, synthesis and applications of metal-organic hybrid biomaterials.
The work will take place in a multi-disciplinary environment. An appointee in this position will be responsible for advancing PREM goals by working with faculty and students to understand how to design new materials and improve materials modeling and synthesis capabilities. The research teams’ goals are to unlock the potential of metal-organic frameworks, biomaterials, and hybrid organic-inorganic materials to establish a new area of materials science research at NMHU.
An appointee should supervise both undergraduate and graduate students. He/she should present obtained results in form of research conference presentations and publications.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and develop a machine learning algorithm capable of predicting the shape of various magnetic hysteresis curves for future applications in material science. This may include the installation and management of computing resources necessary to conduct said research as well as the mentorship of undergraduate and graduate researchers
- Publish a scientific paper in a peer-reviewed journal
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- M.S. in Computer Science
- Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence applied to materials science, specifically to materials modeling and predictions of materials structure – properties relations
- Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research projects
- Strong publication records
- Strong work ethic and motivation to lead multiple research projects
- Expert knowledge of programming and machine learning
- Experience related to high-performance computing (HPC)
