Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Biller/Patient Account(s) expert to join our Patient Accounts team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing the billing process for behavioral health services, ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims to insurance companies and patients. Your expertise will help streamline revenue cycle operations, improve cash flow, and support the overall financial health of our non-profit organization.
Duties
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Review medical records and documentation to verify proper coding of procedures and diagnoses, applying ICD coding conventions accurately.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by communicating with insurance providers to resolve discrepancies or errors promptly.
- Manage patient billing accounts, including generating invoices, processing payments, and updating account information in medical office systems.
- Maintain detailed records of billing transactions, claim submissions, adjustments, and collections to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding issues that may affect billing accuracy.
- Stay current with industry regulations, updates in medical coding standards, and payer policies to ensure compliance and optimize reimbursement processes.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of behavioral health services
- Proficiency in medical coding systems such as CPT, ICD-9/10, ICD coding conventions, DRG classifications, and familiarity with medical billing practices.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for claim processing and record management.
- Excellent understanding of insurance procedures, including pre-authorizations, claim submissions, denials management, and collections.
- Ability to interpret complex medical records and translate them into precise codes for billing purposes.
- Effective communication skills for liaising with insurance companies, healthcare providers, patients, and internal teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple accounts while maintaining accuracy under deadlines.
