Compensation & Benefits:

Position Summary
The Quality Specialist II at New Horizons Baking Company is responsible for ensuring that all baked products meet the highest standards of food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. This role performs daily inspections, monitors production processes, verifies quality records, and supports the Quality Systems Manager in maintaining compliance with HACCP, SQF, and customer requirements. Quality Specialist II is a hands-on position that works closely with production teams to protect product integrity and uphold NHBCO’s reputation for excellence.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform daily inspections of raw materials, in-process dough, and finished bakery products to ensure compliance with quality and food safety standards.
- Conduct GMP and sanitation inspections across production lines (buns, muffins, pancakes, etc.) and ensure corrective actions are taken as needed.
- Monitor baking processes for consistency, including product weights, coding accuracy, moisture, pH, and sensory scoring.
- Support allergen control programs, environmental monitoring, and hold/release procedures.
- Calibrate and verify testing equipment while maintaining accurate records.
- Participate in internal audits, AIB, FDA, SQF, HACCP, and customer inspections.
- Investigate customer complaints, assist with root cause analysis, and document corrective actions.
- Communicate quality issues clearly to supervisors, leads, and management.
- Assist in training team members on GMPs, HACCP, and quality procedures.
- Provide backup support to the Quality Systems Manager during absences.
Food Safety, Legality, and Quality Responsibilities
- Enforce all NHBCO food safety and quality programs consistently.
- Ensure accuracy of documentation, reporting, and record-keeping.
- Take prompt action to address food safety or quality concerns.
- Support compliance with the Food Safety and Quality Manual, GFSI Standards, and customer requirements.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, or related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of quality assurance experience in food manufacturing or baking.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, sanitation, and allergen control programs.
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced bakery environment.
