Pre-Construction / Business Development Manager
Summary/Objective
Lead pre-construction planning and business development activities for the Commercial Drywall Business Unit. This role combines strategic relationship building with oversight of early project phases, supporting client engagement, conceptual budgeting, value engineering, and proposal development.
Primary Job Responsibilities

- Lead the pre-construction phase, including conceptual estimates, budgeting, schedule development, and coordination with internal stakeholders.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow the Commercial Drywall division’s market presence.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, architects, owners, and vendors.
- Collaborate with estimating and operations teams to ensure alignment between bids and execution plans.
- Represent the company at industry events, pre-bid meetings, and networking functions to build brand awareness.
- Oversee the development and submission of high-quality proposals and RFQs.
- Facilitate value engineering reviews to offer cost-effective alternatives to clients during preconstruction.
- Monitor market trends and provide strategic recommendations for positioning and pricing strategies.
- Maintain a pipeline of opportunities and contribute to the division's strategic growth plan.
- Serve as a key point of contact during early project development and transition to operations team upon award.
Other Responsibilities
- Support marketing efforts including the creation of project profiles, capability statements, and client presentations.
- Contribute to CRM data management and opportunity tracking.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Commercial Drywall and company President.
Competencies, Skills, Abilities, Qualifications
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and client-facing communication skills.
- Deep understanding of the commercial construction and drywall market.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Strong budgeting, estimating, and conceptual planning skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software tools such as OST and QuickBid.
- Excellent proposal writing, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple pursuits and priorities simultaneously.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to division-level and company planning.
Supervisory Responsibility
This role does not currently have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This role operates in both office and field environments. Regular travel to meet with clients and attend industry events is expected. Office duties include computer-based work and meetings; field visits may involve exposure to active construction sites.

Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, with regular full-time hours Monday through Friday with occasional after-hours works and overnight travel based on business needs.
Travel
Regular travel throughout the DMV area required. Occasional overnight travel for conferences or key pursuits.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Business, or related field.
- 8 years of experience in commercial construction, with at least 3 years in business development or preconstruction management roles.
- Experience in drywall or interiors preferred.

Must be able to get a background check and drug test.
Work Authorization
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
