Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and implement standards-based physical education lessons for students in grades K–5 (or assigned grade levels).
- Teach fundamental movement skills, physical fitness concepts, sports, games, and cooperative activities.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of all students.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that emphasizes teamwork, responsibility, and good sportsmanship.
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of student performance and participation.
- Monitor student safety and enforce appropriate rules and procedures during all physical activities.
- Inspect and maintain physical education equipment and facilities to ensure safe use.
- Integrate health, wellness, and nutrition concepts into physical education instruction as appropriate.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff to promote student success.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, behavior, and participation.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Organize and assist with school-wide fitness events, field days, and extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Maintain compliance with district policies, state standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate instructional strategies.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and engage students with varying abilities and interests.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (preferred or required, depending on district).
- Understanding of state and national physical education standards.
- Ability to develop engaging lesson plans that promote physical literacy and healthy habits.
- Knowledge of student assessment methods and data-driven instruction.
- Skill in adapting activities for students with diverse physical, cognitive, and emotional needs.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Proficiency in educational technology and student information systems.
- Ability to stand, walk, run, bend, lift, and actively participate in physical activities throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to supervise students in indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
- Indoor gymnasium, outdoor athletic fields, playgrounds, and other school facilities.
