TITLE: District Chef
PAY RANGE 20: $22.88 to $23.98(based on education and experience)
STATUS: Hourly Non-Exempt
LENGTH: 8 Hours/day; 260 Days/Year
DEPARTMENT: Food and Nutrition Services
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager and Director, Food & Nutrition Services

SUMMARY: Responsible for overseeing all culinary functions for the school district and assisting with a variety of functions at many school locations. Including, but not limited to covering for a location manager, assisting with special events or projects, cooking, training, and providing support as needed. Adaptability and flexibility are crucial as this position will be working in multiple locations throughout the district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Food & Nutrition, or a related area with a minimum of three (3) years of multi-unit food service experience or other related experience preferred.
- Will consider the following in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a commercial chef in a high-volume restaurant, hotel, hospital, or school nutrition program with an Associate’s Degree or Certificate in Culinary Arts or related area.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of as a commercial chef in a high-volume restaurant, hotel, hospital, or school nutrition program
- Experience in employee management, preparation, serving, distribution, recipe development, and catering preferred.
- Current ServSafe Food Manager Certification
- Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, and Microsoft Suite of applications
- Accounting skills essential to maintain accurate records and files
- Willingness to learn new tasks in a fast paced changing environment with many interruptions in an open office environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to self-organize work for maximum efficiency; good time management skills with the ability to multitask
- Willing to follow Federal, State and district policies and procedures related to the position
- Effective communication skills- oral and written
- Eager to learn and grow within the food & nutrition program
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP) Compliance Coordination:
- Responsible for the safety of food service handling, distribution and consumption of the finished products.
- Establishes and monitors procedure to comply with HACCP.
- Ensure compliance with ServSafe training
- Nutrition and Menu Planning:
- Develops cost-effective menus consistent with principles of good nutrition that meet all local, state and federal guidelines and regulations.
- Assesses student preferences, industry trends and current research to plan menus that encourage customer consumption and satisfaction.
- Establishes and implements nutrition objectives to maintain the nutritional integrity of the district’s CNP.
- Collaborates with school staff, teachers and physicians to plan menus with special needs.

- Must have or be able to obtain current certifications and licenses required by the local, state, and Federal guidelines for k12 nutrition programs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
Salary : $23 - $24
