Board-Certified Music Therapist (Contractor)

Role Description The Board-Certified Music Therapist (Contractor) will provide hourly, on-site music therapy services throughout the Northern Virginia area (Arlington, Fairfax, Leesburg) Applicant must be willing to work Saturdays from 10am-3pm. Responsibilities include assessing client needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and implementing music therapy interventions aligned with clinical goals. The therapist will document sessions, maintain accurate records, and regularly evaluate treatment outcomes to adjust interventions as needed. Additional tasks include collaborating with caregivers and other professionals, communicating progress, and participating in case consultations. The role also involves maintaining professional boundaries, adhering to clinical and ethical standards, and supporting a positive, inclusive environment for all clients.

Qualifications

• Current Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) and eligibility to meet all applicable state and local requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct client assessments, create treatment plans, and deliver evidence-based music therapy interventions.
• Strong skills in clinical documentation, time management, and maintaining organized, compliant records.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills for working with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in voice and at least one accompanying instrument (e.g., guitar, piano) suitable for therapeutic use.
• Experience working with neurodiverse populations, aged card/memory care or developmental disabilities is highly beneficial.
• Commitment to ethical practice, cultural responsiveness, and maintaining professional boundaries.
• Ability to work independently in an on-site setting, adapt to varying client needs, and uphold a safe therapeutic environment.
• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Music Therapy from an approved program; ongoing professional development and supervision are encouraged.
