Duties And Responsibilities
Microsoft 365 & Exchange Administration
- Administer and maintain hybrid Microsoft Exchange environments including Exchange Online and on-premises Exchange servers.
- Manage Microsoft 365 tenant administration including licensing, mailbox provisioning, retention policies, shared mailboxes, and distribution groups.
- Configure and maintain hybrid mail flow, connectors, transport rules, accepted domains, and mail routing.
- Administer Exchange Online Protection (EOP), spam filtering, quarantine management, and related email security controls.
- Monitor messaging systems for availability, performance, security events, and operational health.
- Perform mailbox migrations, tenant integrations, and messaging modernization projects.
- Troubleshoot advanced mail delivery, calendar, mobile device synchronization, authentication, and client connectivity issues.
- Maintain email archiving, retention, litigation hold, and compliance-related configurations.
- Coordinate maintenance windows, patching schedules, and upgrade activities for messaging infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain messaging standards, operational procedures, and documentation.
- Administer hybrid identity synchronization.
- Manage directory synchronization, federation, and authentication services.
- Administer conditional access, and identity protection controls.
- Manage user lifecycle processes including provisioning, deprovisioning, role assignments, and access reviews.
- Support Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations and enterprise application authentication.
- Maintain privileged access controls and role-based access administration.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity personnel to support email security initiatives, incident response, threat mitigation, and vulnerability remediation.
- Assist with compliance requirements related to public sector regulations, records retention, legal hold, and auditing.
- Generate and review audit logs, message traces, sign-in logs, and security reports.
- Ensure compliance with County technology policies, security standards, and operational procedures.
- Coordinate with server, virtualization, storage, and networking teams to support hybrid infrastructure dependencies.
- Support backup, disaster recovery, and continuity planning for messaging and identity systems.
- Participate in infrastructure modernization projects and cloud migration initiatives.
- Assist in evaluating Microsoft 365 roadmap changes, licensing impacts, and emerging technologies.
- Support mobile device and Outlook client integrations across County-owned systems.
- Provide Tier III escalation support for messaging and identity-related incidents.
- Participate in after-hours maintenance and on-call support rotations as assigned.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, diagrams, system inventories, operational procedures, and configuration standards.
- Develop reports and analytics related to messaging performance, licensing, usage, security events, and operational trends.
- Assist with vendor coordination, support escalations, maintenance renewals, and contract reviews.
- Participate in project planning, implementation, testing, and change management activities.
- Support departmental COOP/COG planning and technology recovery documentation.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Help Desk and Infrastructure staff.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, certifications, and progressively responsible experience may be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience administering Microsoft enterprise environments.
- Minimum of three (3) years supporting Microsoft 365 and hybrid Exchange environments.
- Experience supporting Active Directory, Azure AD (Entra ID), and identity synchronization technologies.
- Experience with enterprise email security, mail flow troubleshooting, and Microsoft Defender technologies.
- Experience supporting public sector, healthcare, financial, or highly regulated environments preferred.
