Title: Laboratory Technician – Veterinary Manufacturing
Duration: 12 Months Contract
Location: Millsboro, DE
Shift: Flexible / Rotating Shifts
Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required based on manufacturing demands.
Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician supports critical laboratory and manufacturing operations involved in the production of veterinary products. This role works under moderate supervision and performs hands-on laboratory, aseptic, and non-aseptic activities throughout the manufacturing cycle. The position requires strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safety requirements within a highly regulated production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Section A – Core Manufacturing & Laboratory Activities (Approx. 90%)
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas including floors, walls, tables, and production surfaces
• Prepare, clean, and sterilize glassware and laboratory equipment
• Assist with equipment setup, operation, and routine manufacturing tasks
• Perform aseptic procedures including media preparation, antigen inoculation and harvest, tissue culture preparation, embryo harvest, and vaccine filling
• Support incubation, weighing, and other routine laboratory activities
• Maintain accurate, concurrent documentation including charts, logbooks, and GMP records
• Demonstrate safe work habits and comply with all safety, gowning, and company policies at all times
Section B – Packaging & Support Activities (Approx. 10%)
• Perform filling, labeling, capping, packaging, and visual inspection of product
• Assist in training new team members
• Report unusual, non-routine, or out-of-specification events to supervision promptly
• Support hazardous waste accumulation, labeling, and management when properly trained
• Assist with non-aseptic procedures including handling poultry during tissue or waste harvesting
• Support SOP, Production Outline, and Special Outline review and development
• Review production records and enter technical data into required systems
• Attend required training sessions, workshops, and meetings
• Assist with monitoring and requisitioning laboratory supplies
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED with 2–3 years of laboratory experience OR
• Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline (fresh graduates considered)
Required Experience and Skills
• Experience working in a regulated industry
• Experience in an aseptic or cleanroom production environment
• Basic laboratory knowledge including use of stir plates, pipettes, and graduated cylinders
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed instructions in a highly regulated environment
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and conversions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to apply technical knowledge to complete assigned tasks within defined timelines
• Ability to identify issues and apply established procedures to assess solutions
• Ability to read, write, understand, and effectively communicate information at multiple organizational levels
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical manufacturing tasks
Important Requirements
• Resources must not currently live or work on a poultry farm or poultry-related environment
• Must be flexible to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required
• Work hours may vary based on business needs
• Travel is not required for this role
Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with hatchery operations including egg harvesting equipment, egg candling, and egg inoculation
• Prior experience working in laboratory or manufacturing facilities
