Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will support two partners primarily focused on family law. This role involves managing legal documents, conducting research, and providing administrative support to ensure efficient case handling and compliance with legal standards. The Paralegal will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of our legal processes while contributing to the overall success of our firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage calendaring, including court filing deadlines, discovery cut-offs, hearings, mediations, etc.
- Draft shell declarations and pleadings (including local and judicial council forms), discovery responses, meet-and-confer correspondence, and other litigation support documents under attorney supervision.
- Manage all aspects of family law discovery, including drafting and organizing requests, preparing responses, managing document productions, and assisting with subpoenas.
- Prepare financial disclosure packets.
- Prepare pleadings for filing and service of process.
- Assist with hearing and trial preparation, including exhibit lists, witness lists, trial binders, deposition summaries, expert reports and other documents as needed.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff.
- Maintain organized digital/physical case files.
- Track time and bill accurately in tenths of an hour.
Required Qualifications
- Two or more years California family law experience, including discovery and financial disclosures.
- Strong working knowledge of California family law practice, local rules, and court procedures.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize competing deadlines in a litigation-focused environment.
- Experience preparing Request for Order packets, discovery documents, declarations, and exhibits for filing.
Proficiency with:
- Legal case management software (e.g. Clio Manage and Clio Draft)
- Legal Research with Westlaw
- Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel)
- Adobe Acrobat (including redaction, bookmarking, exhibit stamping)
- E-filing/systems for California courts (trial and appellate)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with clients in a calm, professional manner.
- Ability to work independently while supporting 2 attorneys.
- Consistent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Paralegal Certificate or Certified Paralegal designation.
- Experience with Ventura County Superior Court filing and local rules.
- Familiarity with financial records, income verification, business valuations, and supporting documentation.
- Experience preparing trial binders and assisting with pretrial logistics.
Compensation & Benefits
- $30-37 per hour commensurate on experience.
