Service Technician
Location: Rush University Hospital – 1620 W Harrison Street, Chicago, IL 60612
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Day Shift)
Travel: ~40% (Domestic; occasional international possible)
Onsite Requirement: 100% onsite at customer location
Position Summary
Oceaneering Mobile Robotics (OMR) is seeking a Service Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and ongoing performance of our Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) systems at customer sites. Based onsite at Rush University Hospital in Chicago, IL, this position is vital to ensuring our systems operate reliably and efficiently.
The ideal candidate will have a strong electromechanical background, with technical experience in system diagnostics, PLCs, and software configuration. This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to work independently, troubleshoot system issues, and deliver excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Install, repair, and maintain AGV systems and components as assigned.
- Perform electromechanical troubleshooting, wiring, calibration, and hardware assembly.
- Configure, update, and test AGV system software to ensure optimal functionality.
- Travel to customer sites (approximately 40%) for service support, occasionally on short notice.
- Maintain service records and log issues using internal ticketing systems.
- Analyze system performance data, identify root causes of issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Interpret technical schematics and documentation to support repairs and updates.
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams to resolve system challenges.
- Provide technical guidance to customers’ teams during service visits.
- Ensure safety compliance and uphold Oceaneering quality standards during all work.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and cross-functional projects.
- Recommend improvements based on field experience to enhance system performance and service procedures.
- Represent OMR professionally in all customer interactions.
Required Qualifications
- 2–3 years of experience in a service technician or maintenance engineering role, preferably with electromechanical systems.
- Background in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Science disciplines.
- Experience working in customer-facing service environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Ability to travel up to 40%.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Fluent in English (verbal and written).
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain a professional demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant technical field.
- Experience with PLCs, sensors, controllers, and embedded devices.
- Familiarity with wiring, soldering, and use of hand tools.
- Understanding of Windows OS, Active Directory; Linux experience is a plus.
- Previous experience developing or executing test plans.
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Passport or ability to obtain one for international travel.
