Job Title: Financial Aid Specialist / Financial Aid Assistant
Location: Plainfield, NJ 07061
Duration: 13 weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Some late evenings may be required)
Job Summary:
The Financial Aid Specialist supports the Director of Financial Aid in the development, implementation, and evaluation of student financial aid processes. This role ensures accurate, compliant, and timely administration of financial aid for students and serves as a key resource for financial aid information.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director of Financial Aid with daily operations, program development, and evaluation of student financial aid processes.
- Serve as a resource for students seeking guidance on financial aid programs, requirements, and application procedures.
- Prepare and distribute financial aid information packets and application materials.
- Support the management and maintenance of scholarship awards and related documentation.
- Stay updated on changes and regulations related to financial aid, including federal, state, and institutional policies.
- Collaborate with admissions, registration, and fiscal departments to ensure smooth and accurate processing of financial aid.
- Work closely with administrative and professional staff to maintain efficient communication and workflow across departments.
- Interact effectively with students, families, visitors, and staff.
- Assist with student services activities such as orientation, graduation, and other school-related events.
- Attend administrative staff meetings as required.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
- Adhere to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Skills & Requirements:
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- Basic PeopleSoft experience preferred.
- Strong data entry skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of education department procedures and student services.
- Experience processing FAFSA, state grants (such as NJ Grants), and/or STARs.
- Ability to process loans and reconcile student financial aid packages.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
Education:
- Relevant educational background or experience in financial aid, higher education, or administrative services preferred.
