Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (NAVFAC EXWC) is looking for an engineer or scientist with diverse professional experience addressing cleanup sites, ranging in contaminants (e.g., PFAS, chlorinated solvents, petroleum), media (e.g., soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapor), and regulatory requirements.This branch leads the Navy’s Environmental Restoration (ER) Technology Transfer (T2) Program, supporting our project managers with the latest information on innovative technologies, methodologies, and guidance to efficiently and cost-effectively address Navy cleanup sites. This branch also provides specialized, high-end technical support to the Navy’s munitions response (MR) Program, radiological issues, and sediment-impacted sites. The selected candidate is expected to have exceptional communication skills, organization, teamwork, and critical thinking and decision-making abilities to support the ER T2 Program. Based on professional experience, the selected candidate will also be expected to grow or develop their technical expertise in the areas of MR, radiological, and/or sediment sites to provide thoughtful support to project managers across the U.S.
Qualifications:
- Must-Have: A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Geological Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Environmental Science coupled with relevant professional experience.
- Ideal Candidate: Demonstrated expertise/experience (i.e., via field work and reporting) in a wide variety of cleanup sites, ranging in contaminants (e.g., PFAS, chlorinated solvents, petroleum), media (e.g., soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapor), and regulatory requirements.
- Highly Desirable but Not Required: Additional hands-on, field experience using detection and characterization equipment for MR sites; additional hands-on, field experience at radiological sites (e.g., addressing impacted soil and/or groundwater); and/or additional technical experience addressing contaminated sediment sites.
- References: Three (3) professional references who will be able to discuss and provide substantive input on your oral and written communication skills; organization; teamwork; and critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
- Travel: Willingness to travel up to approximately 20%.
