Duties
You will overhaul heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and components in structures that have special requirements and sensitive equipment.You will use principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration (e.g., refrigeration cycle, heat transfer laws, refrigerant tables) to maintain heating and cooling systems.You will test refrigerant controls, thermostats, thermostatic and automatic expansion valves, float valves, and capillary tubes for leaks using testing methods and equipment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: 1) Interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints to repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems; 2) Trace and locate defects with HVAC, analog, direct digital control (DDC), and refrigeration systems to determine the type and extent of repair needed; 3) Install a variety of large complex commercial and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
