Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to take ownership of complex tax preparation and play a key role in client-facing tax planning. This position is ideal for a professional who can operate independently, communicate clearly with clients, and contribute to both the technical and strategic side of tax work. This role is critical to supporting our firm’s growth by handling advanced tax work and allowing leadership to focus on higher-level planning and expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Complex Tax Preparation & Compliance
Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns, including:
- Individual (1040)
- Corporate (1120, 1120S)
- Partnership (1065)
- Handle multi-state filings, business structures, and advanced tax scenarios
- Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely filing across all engagements
- Manage extensions, estimated payments, and tax projections
Tax Planning & Client Advisory
- Identify tax planning opportunities within returns and proactively raise them
- Conduct research on complex tax issues and provide practical solutions
- Communicate directly with clients to gather information, explain strategies, and resolve issues
- Translate complex tax concepts into clear, actionable insights
- Serve as a trusted advisor—not just a preparer
Accounting & Financial Support
- Support general accounting functions, including reconciliations and financial statement preparation
- Assist with month-end close and bookkeeping using tools like QuickBooks
- Collaborate on financial reporting and tax-related analysis
Team Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Work closely with the Tax Lead on complex returns and strategic initiatives
- Support and mentor junior staff, including reviewing work and answering technical questions
- Contribute to improving workflows, efficiency, and internal processes
- Collaborate during peak seasons to ensure deadlines are met
Tools & Systems
- Tax preparation software (UltraTax or similar)
- QuickBooks or comparable accounting platforms
- Microsoft Excel
- CRM and document management tools
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–7 years of professional tax preparation experience (public accounting preferred)
- Strong experience with individual, corporate, and/or partnership returns
- Solid understanding of federal and state tax regulations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining high accuracy
Preferred (Not Required)
- CPA or EA certification (or actively pursuing)
- Experience with UltraTax or similar tax software
- QuickBooks or bookkeeping experience
- Exposure to small business tax planning or complex individual returns
- Prior client-facing or advisory experience

- First 90 Days: Independently handle complex returns and become proficient in firm systems
- 6 Months: Manage workload with minimal oversight and proactively engage in client planning discussions
- 12 Months: Serve as a go-to resource for complex tax matters, mentor junior staff, and contribute to process improvements

Pay Range
- $75,000 - $95,000
