SUMMARY: National Capital Treatment & Recovery, formerly Phoenix House, a nonprofit substance use treatment facility in Arlington, VA is hiring a full-time Primary Counselor to provide direct quality counseling services, both individual and group, at the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center in Alexandria, VA. This position will also manage services provided by the Counseling Assistant for the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center. This is a full-time M-F, salaried position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Responsible for managing and coordination of the work provided by the Counseling Assistant
? Conducts individual and group counseling sessions for patients enrolled in our treatment programs
? Serves as primary counselor to patients, responsible for coordinating all elements of patient’s SUD treatment
? Review pre-admission data, notes and medical history
? Complete biopsychosocial assessment and entrance review on each patient
? Maintain patient records and document all changes and progress in patient’s behavior in accurate, chronological progress notes
? Initiate and document contact with all referral sources, family members, and other relevant parties
? Ensure all documentation is maintained according to state licensure regulations
? Document progression through the level system and in accordance to the level system
? Complete required reports on all assigned patients
? Develop an individualized treatment plan for each patient and and document any necessary adjustments as needed
? Conduct individual and group treatment planning sessions to review and revise treatment plans weekly
? Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions to identify and assess issues, goals and measurable objectives
? Provide didactic and experiential education for patients and facilitates group process
? Develop and present educational lectures
? Facilitate treatment groups as scheduled
? Develop and Conduct the family program/group as scheduled
? Develop continuing care plan for patient to enable continuation of services when returning to the community
? Establish and maintain connections with community providers to ensure availably of resources, including the Counseling Center Adolescent program. Act as advocate for patients within the program structure
? Monitor patient activity throughout groups and lectures assigned
? Attend weekly staffing, clinical meetings and other meetings as necessary
? Read and record observations in the daily shift log and communication log, as appropriate
? Work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that the program in delivering a high-quality treatment experience
? Document in Urine Log and prepare specimens for labs. (refer to company policy for laboratory information) Take stat urine as needed (UDS is required for the Counseling Center)
? Maintain ethical standards and continued professional growth, including
a. Abide by Program and NCTR policy and procedures.
b. Ensure all CARF standards are instituted and maintained
c. Promote, in public and private contacts, the quality standards and ethical practices of NCTR staff.
d. Continue professional growth by attending workshops, trainings and staff trainings to increase skill and knowledge and set appropriate example for staff
e. Maintain current licensure/certification including CES, CPR, First Aid, and 32-hour Medication AID training, Narcan
f. Maintain professional boundaries with staff and patients
g. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
? Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field, and able to meet the requirements to be a Resident in Counseling or Supervisee in Social Work in Virginia preferred. Will be required to be a Resident in Counseling or Supervisee upon hire.
? Licensure as a professional counselor, clinical social worker, or substance abuse treatment practitioner preferred
? Minimum of one year experience working in a human service/substance abuse treatment setting
? Certification as a substance abuse counselor (CSAC) preferred
? Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
? Knowledge of substance use treatment and of 12 Step recovery process preferred
? Experience with appropriate population for position (i.e. adults, adolescents, Spanish-speakers) in treatment, if applicable
? Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and respect for patients in group, individual counseling, and daily interactions
? Maintains objectivity towards all patients and make clinical decisions based on accurate information.
? Tracks progress of patients assigned to caseload
? Ability to prepare and maintain required documentation
? Ability to comply with state and federal regulations regarding confidentiality
? Ability to work and communicate with others. Strong written and verbal communication skills
? Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with patients
? Possess a thorough knowledge of various treatment methods and experience working with diverse populations.
? Strong computer aptitude, including, but not limited to use of email, HRIS timekeeping, documenting in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
