Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to provide essential support and care to individuals with developmental disabilities and other needs. This role is pivotal in enhancing the quality of life for our clients by assisting them with daily living activities, ensuring their safety, and promoting their independence. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to patient care and have experience working in various care settings.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide personal care and support to individuals in group homes, assisted living facilities, or in-home settings.
- Monitor client health by observing vital signs and reporting any changes or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Implement care plans tailored to individual needs, ensuring adherence to HIPAA regulations.
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive engagement.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, including light cleaning duties as needed.
- Assist with medication administration as directed by healthcare professionals.
- Support clients with mobility challenges using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the overall well-being of clients.
Requirements
- Previous experience in caregiving roles such as home health aide, nursing assistant, or direct support professional is preferred.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR certification is highly desirable.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or Alzheimer’s care is a plus.
- Ability to perform patient monitoring and maintain accurate records of client progress and care provided.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Physical capability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients as needed.
- Familiarity with long-term care practices and patient observation techniques is beneficial.
