What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advanced Practice Provider position at Nash County?
An employee in this role has received specialized training to function within a multidisciplinary configuration of providers delivering safe and high-quality patient care. Before performing in this role, the employee must be approved to practice medical acts, tasks, or functions by the appropriate State Board as directed by the associated practice act. This employee is practicing in collaboration with a supervising physician who is ultimately responsible for the employee's medical practice. This employee always functions in collaboration with the supervising physician.
This position serves as a physician extender to assess and evaluate needs of the patients and implement a course of action. This position also provides nursing and/or medical services to adult patients through Child Health, Maternity, Family Planning, STD and Adult Health programs within the agency. The main focus area of work would be in the Child Health program. Works with the supervising physician and other disciplines on staff to obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, obtain and perform appropriate diagnostic procedures, prescribe treatment, document findings, develop care plans and counsel patients.
Work Schedule: : 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Rotates with other Physician Extenders to cover night clinics when needed, after hours from 5:00 p.m. until completion. Occasional weekend activity is rare, but required at times. Hours may change depending on services provided by the department. Thorough knowledge of techniques of interviewing, medical and relevant history taking, principles and practices of general medicine and disease states as they relate to the area of work; considerable knowledge of health appraisal tools, laboratory tests and findings, and therapeutic procedures; considerable knowledge and ability to plan a regime of care based on assessment and findings; working knowledge of available resources and appropriate referral methods. Skill in performing clinical functions. Ability to examine patients and detect abnormalities; ability to record accurately and completely all information necessary to evaluate and plan care and to convey this to the physician; ability to communicate orally; ability to teach and counsel individuals, families, and groups in areas of health maintenance, preventive medicine, and care of the sick; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, and to gain the confidence of patients and families and work effectively with them.
Minimum Training and Experience: Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board; OR Certified as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) and licensed to practice as an advanced practice provider in North Carolina.
Must possess current NC driver license.
Salary : $85,284 - $137,341
