Summary
The Prep Chef is responsible for assisting in daily kitchen operations by preparing ingredients, maintaining food quality standards, and supporting chefs with meal preparation. This role is essential to ensuring smooth, efficient, and high-quality food service for catering events or restaurant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash, peel, chop, slice, and portion ingredients according to recipes and menu requirements
- Prepare sauces, dressings, garnishes, and other components in advance of service
- Assist chefs in cooking, plating, and packaging dishes for catering orders or events
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep stations, tools, and storage areas
- Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including proper labeling and storage of ingredients
- Help receive and store deliveries; check for quality and freshness
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager
- Work efficiently to meet preparation timelines for daily production and events
- Support team members during busy service times and assist with cleanup as needed.
- Previous experience as a Prep Cook, Line Cook, or Kitchen Assistant preferred
- Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and kitchen equipment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality
- Ability to follow recipes and directions accurately
- Team player with a positive attitude and good communication skills
- Food Handler’s Certificate (as required by local health regulations)
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs
