The Catering Prep Chef supports the culinary team by preparing ingredients, assembling dishes, and ensuring all food is event-ready. This role focuses on efficient, high-quality food preparation, organization, and packaging for off-site catering events.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and portion ingredients for catering menus, including meats, vegetables, sauces, and sides
- Follow event-specific prep lists and recipes to ensure consistency and quality
- Assist chefs in cooking, assembling, and packaging menu items for transport
- Label and organize food according to event and delivery schedules
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep areas, coolers, and storage spaces
- Ensure all food is stored, handled, and transported according to food safety standards
- Help load catering vehicles and confirm all items are packed securely and correctly
- Monitor inventory of ingredients and supplies; report shortages to the Head Chef or Catering Manager
- Support event setup or service as needed during large or high-volume events
- Assist with cleanup and restocking after events
- Previous experience as a Prep Cook or Kitchen Assistant (catering experience preferred)
- Knowledge of food prep techniques, portioning, and safe food handling
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately under time constraints
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team
- Valid Food Handler’s Certification (as requred by local regulations)
- Physical ability to lift 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
