Operations Manager
Hammer & Nails Grooming Shop for Guys – Studio City, CA
Hammer & Nails Studio City is seeking a hands-on, organized, and results-driven Operations Manager to lead daily shop operations and support the continued growth of our team and business.
This position is ideal for an experienced manager who understands hospitality, guest service, team accountability, memberships, sales, and day-to-day operations. The Operations Manager will work closely with the owner and will be responsible for ensuring that the shop runs smoothly, guests receive an exceptional experience, and team members consistently meet Hammer & Nails standards.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
- Oversee daily shop operations and ensure the business opens, operates, and closes properly
- Complete and verify opening and closing checklists
- Ensure appointments, staffing, guest flow, and service timing are managed effectively
- Monitor the front desk, incoming calls, messages, scheduling, and guest follow-up
- Resolve daily operational problems quickly and professionally
- Keep the owner informed about important business, staffing, and guest-service issues
- Maintain an organized, professional, and welcoming environment throughout the shop
Team Leadership and Accountability
- Supervise barbers, hairstylists, nail artists, estheticians, and Member Concierges
- Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable for performance and conduct
- Conduct shift meetings, coaching conversations, and regular performance reviews
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, breaks, clock-in and clock-out procedures, and schedule compliance
- Address performance or disciplinary concerns consistently and document them appropriately
- Support the onboarding and training of new employees
- Ensure team members complete required training, including membership and service updates
- Help create a positive, respectful, professional, and team-oriented culture
- Lead by example and remain actively involved in daily operations
Guest Experience
- Ensure every guest is welcomed warmly and receives attentive, professional service
- Monitor consultations, service quality, communication, and overall guest satisfaction
- Handle guest concerns, complaints, service corrections, and follow-up professionally
- Review guest feedback and identify opportunities to improve service
- Ensure guest notes are completed accurately after services
- Ensure after-service cards are completed for first-time guests
- Encourage personalized service and consistent follow-up with guests
- Support the team in building long-term guest relationships
Memberships, Sales, and Performance
- Lead efforts to increase membership sign-ups and reduce cancellations
- Ensure the team understands membership options, pricing, benefits, credits, and policies
- Coach team members on how to introduce memberships naturally and confidently
- Track membership sales, rebooking, guest retention, product sales, reviews, and other performance goals
- Help team members set and achieve individual performance targets
- Monitor daily and weekly revenue performance
- Promote appropriate retail product recommendations based on guest needs
- Identify opportunities to improve bookings, productivity, guest retention, and revenue
- Provide regular performance updates and reports to the owner
Cleanliness, Sanitation, and Compliance
- Maintain high standards for cleaning, sanitation, disinfection, and organization
- Ensure stations, tools, equipment, common areas, restrooms, and service areas are properly maintained
- Confirm that team members follow sanitation and safety procedures
- Monitor laundry, towels, supplies, beverages, and inventory
- Ensure cleaning responsibilities are assigned and completed every shift
- Help maintain compliance with company policies and applicable workplace requirements
- Report maintenance, safety, or equipment problems promptly
Scheduling and Labor Management
- Assist with creating and managing employee schedules
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels based on appointments and business needs
- Monitor labor hours, overtime, attendance, and schedule changes
- Help arrange coverage for call-outs and unexpected absences
- Balance guest demand, employee availability, and labor costs
- Ensure the team is prepared before each shift and first appointment
Inventory and Administrative Responsibilities
- Monitor retail products, professional supplies, cleaning supplies, beverages, and operating materials
- Complete or assist with inventory counts and supply ordering
- Help reduce waste, missing inventory, and unnecessary expenses
- Review daily reports, transactions, discounts, refunds, and membership activity
- Assist with payroll information, timekeeping corrections, and employee records
- Maintain organized operational documents, checklists, and training records
- Support local marketing, partnerships, promotions, and community events as needed
Qualifications
- At least three years of management experience preferred
- Experience in a salon, barbershop, spa, hospitality, retail, fitness, restaurant, membership-based, or service-based business is strongly preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to coach employees and hold team members accountable
- Strong understanding of customer service and guest recovery
- Comfortable working with sales goals, memberships, performance metrics, and reports
- Ability to manage several responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Professional, dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable using scheduling, point-of-sale, email, and business-management systems
- Able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays based on business needs
- Cosmetology or barbering experience is helpful but not required
