Position Summary
The Pharmacist is the medication expert within the healthcare system. The hospital pharmacist helps provide effective patient care by facilitating the safe use of appropriate medication therapies to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The hospital pharmacist is an integral component of the medical team, providing accurate and reliable healthcare service and advice to physicians and their patients. Supervises pharmacy technicians under him/her. Able to precept pharmacy students if registered with the state board of pharmacy as a preceptor.
Position Duties (Not all Inclusive)
- Advises medical team regarding specific medications and dosages for patients.
- Communicates correct dosages, possible drug interactions, and risk of side effects before medications are administered.
- Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
- Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technician’s workflow, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals and verifying order entries, charges, and inspections, supervising the work results of support personnel.
- Keeps up to date with the patient’s medication chart and ensures that the correct medications are given to the right patient and that proper protocols are followed, Including checking on proper doses and how often tablets, inhalers, injections, infusions, ointments and creams are administered.
- Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the State board of pharmacy, Drug Enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspection.

Qualifications:- Required: Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Required: License to practice as a Pharmacist in the State of Texas
- Preferred: At least one year post graduate experience
