Hospital Pathology Manager

Job Summary:

The Anatomic Pathology Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating and reviewing all activities of the histology, cytology, and MOHS laboratories to achieve maximum quality of testing and compliance with all requirements by regulatory agencies. The manager will oversee the Pathology Office Manager, Pathology Supervisor, and Chief Cytotechnologist.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

• Upholds and enforces hospital performance standards, safety regulations, and Human Resources policies while participating in organizational performance improvement programs.
• Ensures clinical service quality complies with hospital and regulatory/accreditation agency standards while maintaining up-to-date departmental operational knowledge.
• Manages employee competency, required education, training documentation, payroll, and section time sheets.
• Attend leadership meetings and serve as a positive change agent by communicating policies and initiatives to staff.
• Participate in committees, task forces, and special projects while maintaining productive relationships with external vendors.
• Fosters a collaborative, professional team environment through positive customer service, mentorship, coaching, and role modeling.
• Directs, supervises, and trains laboratory staff—including scientists, supervisors, cytotechnologists, histo-technicians, and assistants—and steps into supervisory roles as needed.
• Oversee the Quality Control Program, prepares monthly QC reports, monitors assay turnaround times, and assists in optimizing laboratory computer software and interfaces.

Education:

• BS Degree in Clinical Technology or related science

Experience:

• Six years of relevant hospital experience (Anatomic Pathology laboratory specialty, specifically focusing on Histology, Cytology, and MOHS laboratories)

License and certificates:

• Current NYS License as Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist, or Pathologists’ Assistant required.
• Preferred with ASCP Certification.
