Position Summary
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Math Teacher to teach students in Grades 7–8.
The successful candidate will deliver rigorous mathematics instruction using the Saxon Math curriculum and methodology. Courses include Algebra I and Geometry, with an emphasis on developing students' mathematical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, and conceptual understanding while preparing them for advanced high school coursework.
The ideal candidate is committed to high academic expectations, strong classroom management, and helping students build confidence and proficiency in mathematics.
Essential Responsibilities
Teach mathematics courses for students in Grades 7–8 using the Saxon Math curriculum.
Deliver instruction in Algebra I, Geometry, and other assigned mathematics courses.
Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the documented curriculum and clear learning objectives.
Assess student learning through quizzes, tests, projects, homework, and other formative and summative assessments.
Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records.
Prepare and distribute progress reports and report cards as required.
Administer standardized assessments as directed by the Math Department Chair and school leadership.
Collaborate regularly with the Math Department to strengthen curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student achievement.
Implement the school's classroom management model with consistency and fidelity.
Communicate regularly with students, families, and school leadership regarding academic progress.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field required.
Massachusetts Mathematics licensure (or eligibility to obtain licensure) preferred.
Strong content knowledge in middle school mathematics, Algebra I, and Geometry.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong classroom management and organizational abilities.
Demonstrated ability to assess student learning and use data to inform instruction.
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
Commitment to rigorous academics, content-rich instruction, and student achievement.
Ability to plan and implement lessons that meet school objectives while supporting students with diverse learning needs.
Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts MTEL requirements within one year of employment.
Additional Information
This position reports to the Math Department Chair and is evaluated annually. Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory performance and annual appointment.
