Billing: Accounts Receivable Specialist
Petoskey, MI / In Office$19-$22/Hour
Position Summary
The Accounts Receivable (AR) Specialist is responsible for managing all patient account ledgers to ensure MCDC is properly paid for services rendered. This includes posting insurance payments, patient payments, posting adjustments and reconciling accounts to ensure proper resolution of issues. Tasks are performed following established department procedures while adhering to all government regulations, payer contracts and insurance guidelines. The person in this role must exercise independent judgment and discretion during performance of assigned duties. AR Specialists work closely with insurance providers to assure accurate and timely reimbursement to MCDC. In addition, this role must treat all information and data within the scope of the position with complete confidentiality and security including but not limited to following HIPPA guidelines.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Posting of electronic and manual checks from Medicaid, Blue Cross, Delta Dental, etc. in a timely fashion
- Process claims according to payor guidelines and procedures
- Prepare letters and/or makes phone calls for the collection of delinquent bills from third parties and/or patients
- Understand and interpret insurance claims denials and prepare appeals
- Timely collection of outstanding AR
- Assist with credentialing/re-credentialing efforts of providers
- Reconcile accounts to ensure that all claims have been processed correctly and funds have been applied to the appropriate accounts, making necessary corrections to ensure ledgers are reconciled
- All other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Above average proficiency with computers and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet at a minimum) including typing skills
- Exceptional detail orientation, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret and apply rules and guidelines from insurances, government regulations and contract documents
- Ability to collaborate and work cohesively as part of a team
- Ability to work with interruptions and to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
