We serve over 90 children, offering both childcare and preschool programs. Through a combination of structured learning, creative play, and spiritual development, the daycare supports each child’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth. Position Summary The Head Teacher is responsible for leading a classroom, ensuring high-quality care, safety, and educational experiences for children while modeling professionalism and consistency for other staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Active Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or qualifications meeting NAEYC candidacy standards
- Meets state-required qualifications or willing to obtain them within first 90 days of employment
- Participate in monthly all staff meetings
Plan and Implement Faith Based Curriculum
- Plan and implement daily lesson activities aligned with Lillio and FunShine Express curriculum frameworks
- Use curriculum tools to create engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences across all domains (social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and language)
- Adapt lesson plans to meet the individual needs, interests, and developmental levels of children in the classroom
- Incorporate a variety of teaching methods including hands-on activities, play-based learning, group instruction, and independent exploration
- Ensure lessons are prepared in advance and materials are organized and ready for daily implementation
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of lesson plans, activities, and child progress within Lillio or Brightwheels
- Create a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and active participation
Maintain Cleanliness and Organization of the Classroom
- Ensure the classroom is clean, safe, and organized throughout the day
- Sanitize toys, surfaces, and high-touch areas regularly in accordance with DCFS and health guidelines
- Maintain organized storage of materials, supplies, and children’s personal belongings
- Keep learning areas clearly defined and free of clutter to promote engagement and safety
- Complete daily cleaning tasks (tables, chairs, floors, rest areas, etc.) and assist with weekly deep cleaning as assigned
- Ensure proper handling and storage of food, bottles, and classroom supplies
- Monitor classroom for potential hazards and address cleanliness or safety concerns immediately
Parent Communication & Partnership
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding their child’s daily activities, development, and overall well-being
- Provide updates through daily conversations, digital communication tools, and documentation (e.g., meals, naps, milestones, and behaviors)
- Share developmental progress, observations, and any concerns in a timely, professional, and supportive manner
- Build positive, trusting relationships with families by being approachable, responsive, and respectful
- Collaborate with parents to support each child’s individual needs, routines, and developmental goals
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all parent interactions
- Participate in parent conferences and contribute meaningful insights on child growth and development
- Address parent questions or concerns promptly and escalate to leadership when appropriate
Team Leadership & Support
- Lead and support Teaching Assistants in daily classroom operations, ensuring a cohesive and well-functioning team environment
- Clearly communicate expectations, roles, and responsibilities to support smooth classroom flow
- Provide guidance and direction throughout the day, including during transitions, activities, and behavior management situations
- Model positive interactions with children, families, and staff, serving as an example of professionalism and care
- Offer ongoing coaching, feedback, and encouragement to support Teaching Assistant growth and development
- Delegate tasks effectively to ensure classroom needs are met while maintaining active supervision
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and team-oriented classroom culture
- Address minor performance concerns in a timely and constructive manner, escalating to leadership when appropriate
Maintain Classroom Structure
- Ensure safety, supervision, and well-being of all children at all times
- Establish and consistently follow a daily classroom schedule that includes transitions, learning activities, meals, rest time, and play
- Create a predictable and structured environment where children understand routines and expectations
- Guide children through transitions smoothly using proactive communication and age-appropriate cues
- Maintain appropriate teacher-to-child ratios and ensure active supervision at all times
- Implement classroom management strategies that support positive behavior, consistency, and emotional regulation
- Follow curriculum plans while allowing flexibility to meet the developmental needs of each child
- Support a calm, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment

Education & Qualifications
Minimum:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- CDA (Child Development Associate) preferred or willingness to obtain within 6–12 months
Preferred:
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
Experience/Skills:
- 1–3 years experience in a childcare setting
- Passion for early childhood education and demonstrate strong leadership skills
- Knowledge of DCFS child care laws
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and work both indoors and outdoors
- Physically able to interact with children at their level and participate in active play.
- Proficient in English for communication with children and families
Certifications:
- CPR/First Aid (required or must obtain upon hire)
- Mandated Reporter Training (required)
- SIDS/Safe Sleeping/Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention
- Infant Safety Training
- 15 Hours In-Service Training Per Year
- Food Sanitation License
