Position Summary
As a Senior Water Operator at Mustang Special Utility District, you will be essential in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of potable water to our residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Your responsibilities will include operating and maintaining equipment such as pumps, valves, and heavy machinery, performing routine inspections, and addressing repairs to maintain the water production system’s integrity and reliability. Your role is crucial in maintaining water quality and service reliability, ensuring customer satisfaction, and adhering to regulatory standards.
Essential Functions:
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Lead daily, weekly and monthly inspections of pumps, motors, chemical feed systems and storage tanks and aquifer levels. Record equipment performance parameters and perform light preventative maintenance to ensure equipment operability. You will also lead the installation, maintenance, and repair of water mains, fire hydrants, valves and service lines. Ability to read Geographic Information Systems (GIS) maps to determine location and size of water mains and valves, along with ability to edit maps to add appurtenances.
- Operational Duties: Monitor and control water treatment processes, including groundwater production and purchased surface water distribution. Operate pumps, valves and use SCADA system to maintain proper flow and pressure, in accordance with TCEQ regulations. Monitor system performance through SCADA program and field inspections. Fill out daily logs to ensure regulatory compliance, including chlorine residuals, turbidity, PH, pressure, flow meters and chloramines. Complete workorders and service reports in a timely manner. Notify Water Operations Supervisor of any operational and maintenance needs. Operate valves to divert water flow to adjust to operational needs. Ability to use work order management system to effectively respond to and complete assigned work. Lead crew to safely and efficiently carry out assigned duties.
- Customer Service: Responds to water quality complaints and ability to determine proper method of treatment and corrective action in a timely manner.
Safety and Compliance: Operate water system in compliance with TCEQ, EPA and local water quality standards. Maintain all reports and documentation. Stay current on hazard awareness, emergency procedures and best practices.

- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience:
Required:
- 3 years of water production operation and/or maintenance experience.
- TCEQ Water Operator C License.
Preferred:
- 5 years of water production operation and/or maintenance experience.
- TCEQ Water Operator B License.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Indoor and Outdoor Setting: You will primarily work in an outdoor environment, utilizing standard equipment such as power tools, hand tools, pumps, heavy equipment, trucks and trailers. Handling chlorine cylinders and other treatment chemicals. Involving physical activity such as walking, climbing and handling the equipment.
- Schedule: Must be able to work outside of regular business hours to meet regulatory deadlines or respond to emergencies. This includes working early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. Will also be subject to on-call rotation.
- Safety Gear: Consistently wear protective gear such as safety shoes, safety vests, gloves, and hard hats to ensure safety during fieldwork.
Conditions Of Employment:
- Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law).
