Overview
Muskingum Iron and Metal is growing rapidly and is searching for experienced candidates for a Yard Jockey. This position has the responsibility of maneuvering the yard truck in and out of dock bays, across the scales and throughout that facility grounds as well as the responisibilty of evacuating fluids from cars that have been scrapped. Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, flatbeds, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and other heavy-duty vehicles to load, unload, and transport scrap metal materials within the yard.
- Load and unload cargo with precision, utilizing forklift equipment or manual handling techniques as needed to ensure safe cargo transfer.
- Coordinate with yard personnel for efficient logistics cargo handling, ensuring proper placement and storage of materials.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after shifts to identify maintenance needs or safety issues.
- Fluid extracion from scrapped vehicles
- Hazardous component removal from vehicles
- Maintain a clean work environment
- Ability to follow EPA and OSHA guidelines to prevent contamination
- Ability to work in a fast and everchanging work environment
- Willingness to be a team player and to prioritize duties
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with experience in truck driving, including tractor-trailer operation and manual transmission vehicles.
- Ability to operate specialized equipment such as forklifts or flatbed trucks safely and efficiently.
- Strong manual handling skills for loading/unloading cargo and managing dangerous goods safely.
